1.       LAN

è Full form: Local Area Network

è It is the network where workstations(host or node) connected to a single department.

è Typically LAN means Ethernet LAN.

è Other variations of LAN are: Token ring, FDDI(Fibre Distributed Data Interface)

2.       MAN

è Full form: Metropolitan Area Network

è Larger than LAN but smaller than WAN.

è Example: city or college network

3.       WAN

è Full form: Wide Area Network

è It covers wide geographical area

è Full form: Storage Area  Network

5.       VPN

è Full Form: Virtual Private Network

è It defines standard in telecommunication and cabling.

è Internet Assigned Number Authority

è Responsible for IP address allocation and DNS record hosting and maintenance.
